Did you obtain a qualification abroad and would you like to get it recognised? The Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering (Agency for civic and social Integration) can help you with the recognition procedure up until three years after you signed the civic integration contract.
What is recognition of foreign qualifications?
Procedures for the recognition of foreign qualifications determine the value of your foreign qualification in Belgium (in comparison with the Belgian educational system).
Why should you get your qualification recognised?
A recognition of your foreign qualification can help you reach your professional goals. Maybe you want to carry out a specific job, follow an additional course or a professional training, or start your own business?
In some cases, a recognition of foreign qualifications is mandatory. For example, to work for the government or to practice a regulated profession (such as physician, nurse, architect, teacher, lawyer …)
Is recognition of my qualification the only way to achieve my professional goals?
No. Recognition of your foreign qualification is not always necessary. There are other ways to show your skills and carry through your project. Together with you a specialist in qualification recognition will check whether it is advisable to start a recognition procedure.

I have been wanting to get my diploma recognised for a while and I’m happy I started the procedure. Some documents were hard to understand as my knowledge of Dutch wasn’t good enough yet. But thanks to the help I got, everything went smoothly. I now work as a nursing assistant in a nursing home.

I studied economics in Moldova. Taking my husband’s advice, I decided to have my qualification recognised. But with a full-time job as a cleaning lady and a small child I didn’t have much time left. Therefore, I was very happy with the help I got during the procedure. A qualification opens doors. Thanks to the recognition of my qualification, I was quickly able to find a job in the real estate industry.
